Pretty Pictures

"The world doesn't necessarily need another pretty picture. But what the world sorely needs is a sense of how things might be put together, that hither to have not been put together."

Excitement

"A certain strangeness, something of the blossoming of the aloe, is indeed an element in all true works of art; that they shall excite or surprise us is indispensable." ~ Walter Pater

Ahead Of The Time

"Creativity in living is not without its attendant difficulties, for peculiarity breeds contempt. And the unfortunate thing about being ahead of your time is when people finally realize you were right, they'll say it was obvious all along."
~ Alan Ashley Pitt

Originality

This week I decided to highlight some quotes on originality. I think this trait is of upmost importance for success in any of the arts. Idiosyncratic branding is what sets apart the masters from their peers. It's true that we learn by imitation, however there must be eventual integration of a unique vision to surpass mediocrity . Without this, artistic cliches and homogenous anonymity will simply be repeated over and over again.

"Whichever master you study must only be a directive for you. Otherwise you will never be anything but an imitator."
~ Paul Cezanne

Thoughts Are Things

This week I'll be featuring some of the quotations of Buddha , the "Awakened One". The name usually refers to Siddhattha Gotama born 560 B.C. in Northern India. He is the historical founder of Buddhism. Through his life, Buddha focused his teachings on the concept of Nirvana, a state of inner peace and enlightenment. Later, Christ echoed the same ideas by saying that the Kingdom of Heaven is within us.

"All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him."
~ Buddha

Follow Your Dreams

I've always loved the humor, insights and wit of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by the pen name of Mark Twain. He is most noted for his novels; Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and has been called "the father of American literature". This week I'll be featuring some of his quotations here in Inspiration For Your Day.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream.
~ Mark Twain

Friendship Takes Time

Welcome to Inspiration Everyday! This week's topic is friendship.
